South Pointe High School defensive back DeVonte Holloman has backed out of his commitment to Clemson University.
After hearing Monday morning that Tigers coach Tommy Bowden had stepped down, Holloman talked with his dad about the news before heading to school.
"We thought it would be best to open it back up," Holloman said. "I did it because coach Bowden stepped down, and it's a situation I'm looking to go into."
Holloman, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound transfer from Charlotte's Independence High School, was rated the No. 1 player in North Carolina by several recruiting services going into the season. At South Pointe, he joined Stephon Gilmore, rated in the top five among South Carolina players.
Gilmore will choose between Alabama and South Carolina at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Holloman has been wavering because of the rumors surrounding Bowden. He has been making visits and said his list is down to LSU, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
"I've been making visits to make sure I made the right decision," he said. "I'm graduating at the end of the first semester so I can enroll in college and participate in spring football practice."
