Rock Hill-based 3D Systems will eliminate 25 jobs, including five at the Rock Hill headquarters, the company announced Friday.
Anticipating a worsening economy, the 3D modeling company decided to move ahead with cost reduction plans, which included work force reduction.
"While I had hoped until now that we could find enough savings to see us through these turbulent times without the need to resize our organization, the current economic realities and their uncertain duration led us to conclude that we have no choice but to adjust the size of our work force to a level that is consistent with the current business environment," 3D Systems' President and CEO Abe Reichental said in a statement on the company's Web site. "As an organization, we have in the past successfully ridden out challenging economic times and have moved forward to subsequent profitable growth. We expect to do so again."
3D Systems uses three-dimensional technology and computer-aided software to design models and prototypes for everything from cars to hearing aids.
The company employs about 360 people worldwide and is headquartered at Waterford Business Park.
