Yorkville Artists' Guild plans Nov. 12 auction

The Yorkville Artists' Guild will host its 2007 art auction Nov. 12 at the American Legion Post 34, at the corner of Cherry Road and Constitution Boulevard in Rock Hill.

Doors open at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The auction kicks off at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $10 and includes dinner. Admission to the auction is free. Door prizes will be given away and a cash bar will be available. For a $1 donation, three drawings for three paintings will take place during the evening.

Rock Hill Rescue Squad begins portrait fundraiser

The Rock Hill Rescue Squad will conduct its portrait fundraiser drive through Community Support Services Inc. For the next several weeks, families in the service area will be contacted by phone or mail and asked to make a donation. Each family that makes a donation of any amount will receive an 8- by- 10-inch family portrait.

Coat and sweater giveaway is Tuesday in Rock Hill

Word Up Ministries is sponsoring a coat/sweater giveaway at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Midtown basketball court at Arcade Victoria Park, 3052 Roddey St., Rock Hill. The items will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. For details, call Juanita Belton at (803) 554-0344.

Local Habitat group needs board members

Habitat for Humanity of York County is accepting applications for board members. Candidates must be a York County resident willing to serve a three-year term, have an interest in the mission of Habitat and can volunteer at least 10 hours a month. Tega Cay group plans dinner, N.C. outing

The following groups will meet:

• The Tega Cay Vintage Club dinner meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tega Cay Golf Club. Cocktails will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mixed green salad, grilled chicken, beef stroganoff, German potato salad, mixed vegetable medley, pumpernickel bread, Black Forest Cake and a sugar-free dessert cup will be served. Musicians will be playing the accordion and tuba. A contest will be held with prizes for the funniest, scariest and most original Halloween costumes. On Saturday, the group will visit Little Big Horn in Dallas, N.C., for a steak dinner and dancing in a quaint old farmhouse. Bowling will continue at 10 a.m. on the first Monday of the month at Strikers in Rock Hill. For details, call Judith Fiegel at 547-6662.

• The youth group Count Me In To Do The Right Thing will meet from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Lewisville Public Library in Richburg. The group, made up of college and school-aged students, will make key chains and get tips on flower arrangements. Alice Faye Evans of Columbia will speak. For details, call Patsy J. • The York County Genealogical and Historical Society will have its fall meeting at 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at Medford Library at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster. Archivist Brent Burgin will present a program on the Medford Library's Catawba Indian collection of history artifacts, including pottery. Support groups planned for grief, weight loss

Support groups will meet this week at the following times:

• Hospice & Community Care will offer a five-week support group for adults who have experienced a recent loss. The group will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Nov. 6, to discuss topics such as ways to remember your loved one, finding help through grief, identifying changes and expressing feelings of grief. Registration is required and may be made by calling 329-1500 or 1-800-895-CARE.

• TOPS, or Taking off Pounds Sensibly, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the YMCA York branch, 103 E. Madison St. The local weight loss support group has weigh-ins every week. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m., and there is a minimal cost. For details, call Cathleen Stowe at 327-0126.
