Craft fair among fundraising events planned by local groups

American Legion Post 34 will host a craft and vendor fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the bingo room of the post home, 199 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill. Handmade jewelry, hats, headbands, glassware, quilts, cookware, T-shirts and other items will be sold.

These other fundraising efforts are planned:

The Future Business Leaders of America at York Comprehensive High School will have a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday and again on Dec. 5 at Fatz Café, 478 S. Herlong Ave. in Rock Hill. The high school group is raising money for the March of Dimes as part of its annual service project. The meal is $7, with $3 going to Fatz Cafe to pay for the employees and food and the remaining $4 and all tips going to the charity. The breakfast will include three pancakes, sausage links and choice of beverage. Members of the community service committee will be servers.

Dacus Library at Winthrop University will hold the second annual Art 4 Books Festival on Dec. 1. Artists are being sought to showcase their work during the event. Rental tables are $20. Fees from the event will benefit Dacus Library, but proceeds from all the sales will benefit the individual artist. The United Methodist Women of Woodland United Methodist Church will host their annual cookie walk at 9 a.m. Dec. 12 at the church, 801 N. Cherry Road, Rock Hill. Boxes of cookies are $6 each. Proceeds benefit community projects. For details, call 803-328-1842.

A canned food drive sponsored by Operation Help One Another will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Walmart store on Dave Lyle Boulevard in Rock Hill. For details on the group, call Sherman Porterfield at 803-980-HELP or visit operationhelp oneanother.org.

The United Methodist Women of Mount Holly United Methodist Church will sponsor a bazaar from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, 1996 Mount Holly Road, Rock Hill. Baked goods, crafts, a silent auction, white elephant items and more will be sold. Breakfast and lunch will be available. All proceeds benefit mission projects.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 9138 will host a Daggitt Doll workshop from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Post. For details, call Sarah Clinton at 803-366-8298.

Faith Family Christian Center Women's ministry will host a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 3483 Homestead Road in Rock Hill.

Clover High comedy

among local entertainment

These local entertainment options are planned:

The Northwestern High School musical theater will present “Into the Woods Jr.” at 7 tonight and Friday night in the school auditorium. Tickets are $8 students and $10 adults.

Clover High School will present “Comedy Tonight: An Evening of One Acts” at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday night in the Clover School District Auditorium on S.C. 55. The evening features three comedic masterpieces from classic and contemporary playwrights. They are “The Actor's Nightmare,” about an unlucky accountant who is thrust on stage to replace an ailing actor, “Take Five” about an incomplete set, missing actor and props and an inept tech crew, and “Romance In a Flat,” the story of a romantic misunderstanding that leads to a conclusion where love conquors all. Rob Addison is the high school's drama director.

Chester residents are invited on a trip to the Alabama Casino. A bus will depart from the cinema on Columbia Street at 2 p.m. Nov. 27 and return at 4 p.m. Nov. 28. The cost is $65. For details, call 803-581-0044.

The Rock Hill Therapeutic Arts Programming Committee will host a visual and performing arts event at 7 p.m. Friday at the Community Performance Center, 249 E. Main St., Rock Hill. The event, “TAP into the Arts”, will highlight art from area youth and adults who have intellectual disabilities. There will be photography and pottery exhibits and performances by the York County Disability Foundation's Show Choir, York Road Elementary School's handbell classes and Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism's Praise Dance Team.
