Check out what's new at Glencairn Garden

The Blue Chip Band will perform from 3 to 5 p.m. March 30 at Glencairn Garden, at the corner of Charlotte Avenue and Crest Street, Rock Hill. The band will play a variety of jazz, pop and standards on the garden's new Vernon Grant stage.

In the event of rain, the concert will be canceled. The show is sponsored by Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Admission is free. For details, call (803) 329-5620 or visit www.rockhillrocks.com.

Catawba River exhibit is opening at MYCO

The Museum of York County will preview a new exhibit, "River Docs," from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the museum, 4621 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill.

The exhibit, which was previously shown at The Light Factory in Charlotte, is a year-long documentation project of the Catawba River, featuring fine art photography, fabric installation and interactive digital media.

Appearing at the event will be the artists, Raymond Grubb, Nancy Pierce, Byron Baldwin, Mike Wirth, Marek Ranis, Maja Godlewska and curator June Lambla.

Attendees can also see another exhibit, "A Cry for the Catawba," which includes 25 images that portray the beauty of the river, taken by John Simmons.

Admission is free. RSVP for the event by Wednesday by calling 329-2121.

Yorkville Players present "Grandest Canyon" in April

The Yorkville Players will perform local playwright Burton Bumgarner's "The Grandest Canyon" at the McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St., York.

Show times are 8 p.m. April 10, 11 and 12 and 3 p.m. April 12 and 13. The play is about Miss Ida Ingram's last wish to have her ashes scattered over the Grand Canyon, no small request for her two remaining elderly sisters, Isabelle and Imogene, who have never ventured out of South Carolina.

Tickets are $8 for all shows, except the 3 p.m. April 12 show, which is $5. All seats are general admission. A reception for Bumgarner will be at 7 p.m. April 11 at the McCelvey Center.

A dinner theater package is available for the 8 p.m. April 11 and 12 performances. Dinner will be at the Coal Yard Restaurant and Lounge, 105 Garner St., York. Cost is $15 and includes dinner and play ticket.

Male singers sought for local barbershop society

The Carolina Chordsmen, a Barbershop Harmony Society organization, seeks men of all ages who like to sing. They are invited to attend a guest night at 7:30 p.m. April 1 at First ARP Church, 201 E. White St., Rock Hill.

Guests will have the opportunity to sing with other men in their own voice range and will hear songs by several quartets and the chorus. It is not necessary to read sheet music to participate.

Refreshments will be served. For details, call 324-2944. The society is the largest all-male singing organization in the world and is dedicated to sustaining and preserving the barbershop style of music.

York farmers market to open on April 5

The Downtown York Farmers Market will open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning April 5 on North Congress Street in downtown York. It will be open each Saturday through October. Individuals and non-profits are invited to participate as vendors free of charge.

Lunch vendors are needed. The market will sell locally grown fruits and vegetables, honey jams, baked good, herbs, flowers, crafts, gourmet and organic items and more.

Clemson, Bearcat singers will perform at St. John's

The Clemson University Singers and Rock Hill High School Concert Choir will perform at 6:30 p.m. April 2 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Rock Hill. The performance will be in the Core, the youth area of the new building, at 321 S. Oakland Ave. The event is free and open to the public.
