Martha Macdonald, a local storyteller, dancer, musician, writer and English professor, will present a program on Scotland's beloved poet, Robert Burns, at 7 p.m. May 19 at St. John's United Methodist Church, 321 South Oakland Ave., Rock Hill.
Macdonald will share stories, sing, dance the Highland Fling and read poems. The program is free and open to the public. Macdonald recently published a new book, "Psaltery at White Oaks," a novel about generations of female descendants, starting in 1763. For details, call Pat at 980-4000.
Landsford Canal trip planned on June 14
A day trip exploring Landsford Canal with geologist Irene Boland, natural history curator Steve Fields and historian Michael Scoggins will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 14.
The group will meet at the Museum of York County, 4621 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill. Participants must be 18 years old because of van restrictions. Landsford Canal is the home of the rare Rocky Shoals spider lilies. Participants will learn the natural and cultural history of the area and are asked to wear hiking appropriate clothing, bring a bag lunch, water and sunscreen. 'Story of stuff' to be shown at York library
The York County chapter of the South Carolina Green Party will show a film, the "Story of Stuff," which explains the global economy, at 7 p.m. Thursday at the York Public Library, 21 E. Liberty St., York.

Catawba seniors gathering for benefit
The Catawba Seniors Gathering will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Outdoors at Green Earth Athletic Field, 2900 Sturgis Road, Rock Hill. The event is a fundraiser for the Catawba Indian Nation Senior Center. Activities include a Native American pottery, drum, dance, food and crafts. Admission is free. Participants are asked to bring chairs. Rain location will be 996 Avenue of the Nations, Rock Hill.
Neighborhood group will meet Thursday
The Spencer Estates Neighborhood Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Media Center at Belleview Elementary School, 501 Belleview Road, Rock Hill. Mike Kropp will discuss landscaping for drought conditions.
