The Tega Cay Lions Club recognized 16 Fort Mill High seniors from Tega Cay for academic excellence May 10 at a breakfast meeting. These students are in the top 10 percent of the 2008 graduating class: Ashleigh Sheets, Kelly Keziah, Brittany Fournet, Nicole Fournet, Kaylee Klixbull, Michael Dulcie, Weldon Deas, Matthew Knowe, Eric Fielden, Caleb Klipowicz, Erica Chapman, Brian McGarrity, Daniel Koverman, Jason Hnat and Priscilla McNulty. Since 1988, more than 136 graduating seniors have been honored by the club.

Fleur-de-Lis gardeners have new officers

The Fleur-de-Lis Garden Club of Rock Hill met at the home of Sarah Harper for its year-end meeting, annual picnic and installation of new leaders. The club's officers for the upcoming year are Sarah Harper, president; Margaret Harper, vice-president; Gayle Lanford, secretary; and Libby Vaughn, treasurer. The club has been active for more than 30 years, meeting monthly at various members' homes to discuss gardening and participate in community service projects.

Woman's Club members back from state convention

Representatives from the Woman's Club of Rock Hill recently attended the General Federation of Women's Clubs-South Carolina State Convention in Columbia. Club members, Karen Kaylor, president; Linda Grant, second vice-president; and Sylvia Ayers attended the event.

The club received 14 awards, including save a life cancer and breast cancer awareness certificates; first-place awards for arts in the community; resource conservation; club scrapbook; silver award for publicity; second-place award for yearbook; education, life long learning; home life, women's health; public affairs, citizenship; fundraising; membership increase; leadership, number of members serving in leadership positions at the state level; and recognition as one of 14 clubs donating the most money for Habitat For Humanity. A total of $150,000 was donated by the South Carolina Clubs, enough to build three Habitat houses.

The Woman's Club of Rock Hill is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs.

Delta Sigma Theta takes in new members

The Epsilon Rho Sigma Rock Hill Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority inducted 34 new members on April 19. The new members are Erica Abney, Sherille Barber, Nikita Baxter, Yolanda Benson, LiMia Bowen, Granita Boyd, Kamala Brown, Lasonya Burkett, Christyl Champion, Seanta Clark, Louvetta Dicks, Chequera Ellis, Stephanie Evans, Andrea Garrison, Olivia Gillcrese, Jerri Grant, Marjorie Grooms-Anderson, Eunice Kendrick, Sharon Kendrick, Rachel Law, Anita Levine, Freda Linen, Deborah McCloud, Shelby Patterson, Roxan Rawlinson, JaVannah Rice, Willia Robinson, Larissa Shuler, Mniokhi Sims-Brewton, LaDonna Smith, Chiquite Thompson, Carolyn Whetstone, Janell Wylie and Tiffany Young.

Arts council has been board member

Andy Shene has been appointed to the board of directors for the Arts Council of York County.

Shene, senior vice president and market executive with First Citizens, will serve on the fundraising committee, participate as an ambassador for the Arts Council and promote the organization through membership and goodwill in the community and contribute to the financial support of the Arts Council. He joins five other board members and will serve a three-year term.

Jennifer Carlyle interning for United Way

Jennifer Carlyle of Lexington is the summer intern for United Way of York County. Carlyle is an undergraduate integrated marketing communications student at Winthrop University. Carlyle plans to graduate in May 2009 and pursue a career in public relations or marketing.
