Retirement village hosting derby Thursday

Learn more about Glencairn plans

Learn more about the veterans area planned for Glencairn Garden, honoring past, present and future veterans, at 10 a.m. Friday at the Glencairn Garden Learning Center, 825 Edgemont Ave., Rock Hill. The event held by City of Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism department will feature the Commanders of the American Legion Post 34 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2889 and Mayor Doug Echols. Cattlemen's group offering scholarships

The South Carolina Cattlemen's Association will award two $1,000 scholarships. One scholarship will go to a college student whose intent is to pursue a four-year degree in a curriculum of applied agricultural sciences. The applicant must be an active member of the association or the child or grandchild or an active member. Applications will be considered in the following areas, in order or importance, agricultural background and related activities; scholastic achievement; and financial need.

A second scholarship will be awarded to a college student who plans to pursue a four-year degree, with no restriction on the field of study. The applicant must be an active member of the association or the child or grandchild of an active member. Brush up skills with AARP safety program

The AARP safety program for ages 50 years and older, will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 5 and 6 at the York Public Library, 21 E. Liberty St., York. Participants must attend both days to receive a certificate which may reduce insurance rates on collision and liability. Cost is $10 and it is not necessary to be a member to attend. Mended Hearts support group meeting May 27

Mended Hearts, a support group for heart patients and their families, will meet at 6:30 p.m. May 27 in the doctor's dining room at Piedmont Medical Center, 222 S. Herlong Ave., Rock Hill. Dr. Douglas Nicholson, nephrologist, will discuss heart disease and the kidneys. The meeting is open to the public.

The York County Chapter Bloodmobile schedule is as follows:

• Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., ABITIBI Bowater, 5300 Cureton Ferry Road, Catawba.

• Friday, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., Trinity Methodist Church, 22 E. Liberty St., York.

• May 28, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Winthrop University Withers student activity center, Eden Terrace Road, Rock Hill.

Fort Mill YMCA at Baxter planning health events
