Ross Baker approved for Eagle Scout award

Ross Baker of Boy Scout Troop 391 in Rock Hill has passed his board of review for advancement to Eagle Scout. Baker began Scouting in Cub Scout Pack 31 and earned his Arrow of Light award. He has served as patrol leader and chaplain and currently serves as instructor. Ross has earned 28 merit badges.

For his Eagle Scout project, Baker designed and directed the construction of five picnic tables for an outdoor classroom setting at India Hook Elementary School. The project involved over 100 hours of volunteer work. Baker attends Northwestern High School and is a rising senior.

Baker is the son of Michael and Erin Baker of Rock Hill. Boy Scout Troop 391 is sponsored by Rawlinson Road Baptist Church of Rock Hill and the Scoutmaster is Mike Janeski.

Winners named in Gene Knight tourney

The 25th annual Gene Knight Play for the Child golf tournament was June 6 at the Spring Lake Country Club in York. Grand prize winner, who received a golf weekend in Myrtle Beach, was Ezzie Munn of York.

First-place prizes were awarded to the following flight winners: first, Joe Hourihan and Noel Fuller; second, Wayne Ballard and Jack King; third, Mike Murphy and Carl Grimm; fourth, David Locke and Buddy Dewitt; fifth, David Simril and Jim Godd; and sixth, Karen Stallings and Melanie Wall.

Local 4-H club competes in state forestry event

The York County Let's Go 4-H Club competed in the State Forestry Competition June 5 at the Rock Hill Optimist Park Club. Members competing were Lydia Bass, Jordan Cannady, Eli Doggart, Issac Doggart, Justin Krause, Lisa Krause, Nichole Krause, Sarah McColgan and Tommy McColgan.

The contest consisted of a forestry test, compassing and pacing and tree identification. Issac Doggart was high scorer in the forestry test, Jordan Cannady was high scorer for compassing and pacing and Justin Krause and Nicole Krause tied for first place in tree identification. Tying for first place overall were Issac Doggart and Justin Krause. Club leaders are Lisa Doggart and PJ Krause.

Robbie Neal named to attend youth leadership event

Robbie Neal will attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law July 1 through 6 in Washington, DC. Neal, a freshman at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, was nominated to attend based on his academic record, leadership and interest in law. During the forum, students are introduced to careers in the legal profession by examining court cases and working with legal professionals.
