New charter school hosting local meetings

Public meetings will be held for those interested in a new charter school, York Preparatory Academy, opening in the fall of 2009 for grades K through 8.

Meeting times are 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Boyd Hill Community Center, 1165 Constitution Blvd., Rock Hill and 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Mill Public Library, 1818 Second Baxter Crossing. For details, call 327-1550 or visit www.yorkprepsc.org.

Computer class is offered for job seekers

Panorama Computer Learning, a nonprofit organization, will have a Microsoft 3-in-1 computer class offered at a 50 percent discount for people who are unemployed. The class will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday the Wingate Inn Hotel, 760 Galleria Blvd., Rock Hill. Students will learn to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint in a hands-on computer class. Dell notebook computers will be provided for classroom use. Cost is $25 for those that are unemployed and $50 for regular enrollment. Workshops offered for civic, church groups

Community education workshops for groups, civic organizations and church gatherings are offered by Agape Hospice of the Piedmont. The topics and times are developed based on the request of the group and can cover subjects such as Hospice: Its about living; Lean on Me, a grief and loss discussion; Caring for Someone You Love, resources and support discussion for caregivers; Comfort My People, a ministering to ones facing terminal illness; Joy in the Journey, inspirational words and music based on Galatians 5:22-23; and A Gift For Those You Love, healthcare decision making.

Workshop on STDs offered at Emmett Scott

A free workshop about STDs, HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, and drug and alcohol abuse will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Emmett Scott Center, 801 Crawford Road, Rock Hill.

The program is for ages 13 to 18. Children under 13 may attend with a parent. Guest centers will be the Catawba Health Care Coalition and the Palmetto Teen Pregnancy Center.
