Shakespeare's new, hip and ready in 15 minutes

The Young Yorkville Players will present "The Shakespeare Project" and "The Fifteen Minute Hamlet" at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday, July 25, 26 and at 3 p.m. July 20 and 27.

In "The Shakespeare Project," adapted by James Zager, the most famous scenes and monologues are taken from a selection of Shakespearean works and presented in a contemporary style with new interpretations. In "Fifteen Minute Hamlet," Tom Stoppard's version takes the most famous and best- loved lines from Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and condenses them into a hilarious 15-minute version.

Get football tips from South Pointe High coach

Fewell Park will have a football seminar, "In the Huddle" with Bobby Carroll, head football coach at South Pointe High School, at 6:30 p.m. July 24 at the park, 1204 Alexander Road, Rock Hill. Tega Cay planning annual bash, community events

The Tega Cay Community will have the following events:

n The eighth annual Tega Cay Bash will be from 7 to 11 p.m. July 26 at the Tega Cay Golf Club and Community Center, 1 Molokai Drive, Fort Mill. This year's theme is football fever. n Tega Cay's 7th annual baseball night will be July 26 at the Knights Baseball Stadium, 2280 Deerfield Drive, Fort Mill. A tailgate party will be at 5 p.m., pregame activities will be at 6:45 p.m. and the game starts at 7:15 p.m. Bob Cullen, Citizen of the Year, will throw the game's first pitch. The evening will end with fireworks. Neighborhood groups are encouraged to join in along with the Vintage Club, Fire Department, Lions and other participating groups. Red Hat Rubies planning now for Christmas Ball

The Red Hat Rubies of Rock Hill will have its formal Christmas Ball from 7 to 11 p.m. Nov. 22. Cost is $45 per person and includes a sit down dinner, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, cash bar and disk jockey.

Tickets must be purchased in advance by Aug. 1. Send checks and make them payable to Rock Hill Rubies, Annette Greene, 230 Campsite Road, Rock Hill, S.C. 29732. Include name, chapter name, address, e-mail address and escort's name if applicable. Tickets and directions will be mailed two weeks prior to the event. No refunds are given after Aug. 1.

Get in on McCelvey fun with season passes

Season tickets for the 2008-2009 McCelvey series, a performing arts series, are now available. The Shady Grove Band will kick off the season on Sept. 20. Future performances include War Bonds, the Annie Moses Band and Simply Sinatra. Season tickets are $55 for CHM members and $75 for non-members by calling 684-3948.

York's Hunter Street school offers summer reading

Hunter Street Elementary School will have a summer reading program for its students. Students may check out books from the library and participate in fun literacy activities on these dates:

n Monday, activities, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., library open, 3 to 6 p.m.

n July 21, activities, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., library open, 9 a.m. to noon.

n July 28, activities, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., library open, 3 to 6 p.m.

n Aug. 4, activities, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., library open 9 a.m. to noon.

Arts council offering several classes to expand talents

The Arts Council of Rock Hill will have the following classes:

n A pottery workshop led by Mickey Shane will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 26 at the Rock Hill Pottery Center, 201 E. Main St., Rock Hill. Shane is a noted ceramic artist and will demonstrate how adornments such as handles, spouts, ilds and others, when combined on a pot, can have a greater effect as a whole than their individual effects. Shane will discuss formal relationships and proportions when creating pottery and how to allow one's work to grow naturally. Participants are encouraged to ask questions during the discussion. Cost is $50 and the deadline to register is July 21. The workshop is part of the Arts Council of York County's 2008 Workshop Series.
