Slide down to Main Street for some music

Main Street Live in Downtown Rock Hill will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 7 at the end of Main Street from Wachovia to the Gettys Center. The Skintonz will perform. Admission is free. In the event of rain the concert will be rescheduled for the following Thursday.

Wine, workshops and walking are on museum schedule

The Culture and Heritage Museums will have the following events:

n The 2008 Vintage Celebration, the 15th anniversary wine-tasting benefit, 7:30 to 11 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Museum of York County, 4621 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill. Wines and specialty beers will be served. All guests will receive a tasting glass provided by O'Darby's. The event will include live auctions, a wine raffle and a wine pull. Paula Gillman & Co is sponsoring a primer tasting conducted by Catherine Rabb, associate instructor at Johnson & Wales University. Admission is $50 for CHM members and $60 for non-members. Tasting begins at 6:30 p.m. for Vintner-level participants. Prices for Vintner tasting level are: $375 for Magnum level, $750 for Jeroboam level, $1,500 for Rehoboam level and $2,000 for Imperial level. Wines are offered by Ben Arnold Beverage, Carolina Craft Distributors, Grapevine Distributors and Falcor Winery, J. Lohr Vineyards and Wine, Paula Gillman & Co. and Southern Wine & Spirits. Beers are offered by B&B Distributors, Comer Distributing Co. and Thomas Creek Brewery. The event will feature special guest Stuart Roy, director of wine and spirits at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. n Family workshop, for children ages 4 and older with an adult, 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Museum of York County. Participants will be taught about the benefits of outdoor time and share in activities. Each family will receive a magnification loupe. Cost is $5 per family for CHM members and $8 per family for non-members. The event is organized by Liz Baird of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in recognition of international "Take a Child Outside Week." To register, call (803) 981-9182 by Monday.

n Bridges & Trails: Connecting Community to Nature, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at MYCO. Learn about the projects Carolina Thread Trail and A Bridge and Its Place. An overview of the planned regional trail network will be given by Ann Browning, project director, and a discussion of a project for planning footbridges to unite segments of the trail will be conducted by Deborah Ryan, associate professor in the School of Architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Award-winning corps to perform in Rock Hill

The Plymouth Fife & Drums Corps, under the direction of Jim Predhomme, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rock Hill City Hall. The Corps perform under drum major Jennie Rowe and color guard commander Stephanie Cogo. For details, visit http://www.pfdc.us/.

Winthrop concert to benefit local Habitat

Music for Humanity and the York County Habitat for Humanity will hold a benefit concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Barnes Recital Hall at Winthrop University.

The concert will feature bass-baritone Kristopher Irmiter, mezzo-soprano Audrey Babcock and comedian Kier. Irmiter, a 2007 Grammy Nominee, has performed in all 50 states and throughout Canada. Babcock is noteworthy in her symphonic concert and recital engagements that have included "Murder and other Operatic Mayhem" with the National Symphony Orchestra and "Where the Boys Are" with musical director, Steve Blier. Kier, besides being a comedian, is also a speaker, singer and songwriter who played a writer's night at the Bluebird Cafe and was headlined at Zanies Comedy Club.
