9/11 remembrance event planned in Fort Lawn

A 9/11 remembrance program will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fort Lawn Community Center, 5554 Main St. It is sponsored by the center and by Richard Hulse, a retired volunteer firefighter from New York.

Fall livestock show planned this weekend

The 2008 York County Fall Livestock show will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday at Triple Creek Farm, 700 Triple Creek Drive, Rock Hill. Admission is free, and food will be sold. For details, call 684-9919, Ext. 113.

CHM programs include "green" homes, River Sweep

These programs are offered by the Culture and Heritage Museums:

• By the Sweat of Our Brows, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Historic Brattonsville, 1444 Brattonsville Road, McConnells. Brattonsville plantation slave descendants celebrate their ancestor's legacies. Admission is $8 adults, $6 seniors, $4 ages 4 to 17 and free for ages 3 and younger. CHM members receive a $2 discount.

• Greenovate your home, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Museum of York County. Cost is $10 CHM members, $15 nonmembers. Register by Sept. 15 by calling 981-9182.

• Dividing the Carolinas, part of the Ancestor and Archives series, 11 a.m. Sept. 20 at the Historical Center of York County at McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St., York. Admission is free.

• River Sweep of the Catawba River for ages 10 and older, 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 20. Register by calling 329-2121 by Friday.

Rawlinson Road school to host Boston Brass

The Boston Brass will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 in the auditorium at Rawlinson Road Middle School. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets are $15 adults, $10 seniors and students and free for children in 5-year-old kindergarten or younger. Shady Grove band kicks off McCelvey series

Bluegrass band The Shady Grove band will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 20 at McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St., York. The performance kicks off the 2008-2009 McCelvey Series. Local theater groups plan upcoming shows

The Fort Mill and Rock Hill theater groups have news:

• The Fort Mill Community Playhouse dinner theater production of the Neil Simon's classic "Plaza Suite" will be Sept. 25 through 27 and Oct. 3 and 4 at the theater, 615 Banks St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar, dinner is at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Reservations are required a week in advance. Confederate youth day will be Sept. 27

Heritage celebration planned in Great Falls

The Great Falls Heritage Celebration will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 26 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 at the War Memorial building, 401 Dearborn St., Great Falls.

Sept. 26 events will be a celebration of art and include music, theater, arts exhibits, book signings, food and silent auction. The auction benefits the Great Falls Home Town Association. Sept. 27 events include a barbecue sale, indoor and outdoor art exhibits, performances, children's activities and more. Admission is free.
