Chelsey Polk receives Eagle award
Chesley Polk was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in March; his Eagle Court of Honor was in August at his parent's home in Rock Hill.
For his Eagle project, Polk refurbished a 200-foot by six-foot shrub bed that borders the cemetery of Mount Holly Methodist Church. It involved removing overgrown vegetation and replanting. He coordinated 16 volunteers in more than 119 hours of work.
Polk is a member of Troop 133 of Mount Holly church, led by Scoutmaster Rick Turney. Polk has earned the Arrow of Light, 21 merit badges and served as quarter master, scribe, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and assistant senior. He was accepted into the Order of the Arrow and achieved his Brotherhood.
Polk is a graduate of the S.C. Governors School of the Arts and Humanities in Greenville and is now at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Conservatory. Polk is the son of Bobby and Rhonda Polk of Rock Hill.
River Hills Lions announce awards
The River Hills Lions club announced the following awards:
• Patrick Kirby, Lion of the Year. Kirby joined the Lions in 1994. He has served as captain for the River Hills Lions Directory.
• Dick Lewis, Distinguished Service Award. Lewis has been a Lion for more than 20 years, served as president and on the board of the River Hills Lions Community Foundation. He is a past recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow and Lion of the Year.
• Louis Girolami, New Lion of the Year, given to those who have been members of the club for less than 18 months.
