Jackyl, Preacher Stone to rock -- Southern style

"Tonight there's gonna be trouble," "somewhere in this town," or more specifically, at Amos' Southend in Charlotte where those "Wild-eyed Southern boys" of Jackyl are back in town to throw down with a heapin' helping of raunch 'n' roll as only this bunch can deliver.

Jackyl is, was and always will be renegades among the renegades of rock; plus, their Southern roots makes them notorious times 10.

Emerging from Georgia and South Carolina to national renown in the early 1990s, their tight bluesy hard-rockin and Southern sass sound often was mislabeled metal.

But rather than AC/DC or Ozzy, Jackyl's heritage is a clear-cut mix of Allman Brothers, Skynyrd and Black Oak Arkansas, with more than a dash of Ted Nugent thrown in for good measure.

With songs like "The Lumberjack," "I Stand Alone," "When Will It Rain," "Push Comes To Shove" and others, the mischief-factor and innuendo ratio are off the meter, thanks largely to the prancing, "daint-cin'" front man Jesse James Dupree, holding court with his "hell yeah" attitude and the rare ability to brandish a chain saw as both a solo musical instrument and power tool to dissect a wooden stool. Now, that's entertainment.

Dupree's comrades-in-arms -- Jeff Worley, guitar; Chris Worley, drums; and Roman Glick, bass -- round out the lineup of Jackyl. See them carry on their rock road warrior ways live tonight at Amos' Southend.

Special opening guest for the evening's festivities is Preacher Stone -- a new group featuring a few friends from past bands, particularly Ronnie Riddle, lead vocals/rhythm guitar/mandolin, (Deuce, Kid Khaos, Riddle); Marty Hill, lead/rhythm guitar/acoustic/slide/dobro, (Phantom Park, Swampdawamp, Superglide); Glenn Blackburn, bass/vocals, (Phantom Park, Paragon, SuperGlide, Homesick Angel); Benny Hunt, lead/rhythm/guitars/acoustic/ vocals; and Jason Donaldson, drums/percussion.

Together less than a year with a debut CD nearly ready to release, Preacher Stone is an unknown entity waiting to release the combined spit-and-swagger talent into a guitar-driven demon, what Blackburn termed "modern Southern rock/redneck metal, that's live, loud and in-your-face." Or, as Riddle relates, "being onstage, with Preacher Stone is like drivin 200 miles per hour in the rain. All you can do is hang on and enjoy the ride!"

This rock/alternative ensemble made big noise during the last year with their high energy and melodic musical message but find themselves at a turning point to make career decisions. Thanking fans, friends and family for their support, the band issued a call for all to make it out to Livalie's final show, with guests Sugar Glyder and Amherst, live this Saturday at The Money, 111 S. Tuesday, look for Hinder to wander into Amos Southend, while Cute Is What We Aim For hits Tremont Music Hall. Then, on Wednesday, Tesla charges into Amos' Southend, along with guests The Leo Project. Even zombies will be out and about this weekend, and who knows what else, amidst a surge of madcap and marvelous live music ventures as the following listing reveals.
