'Anything Goes' at Winthrop

The Winthrop University Department of Theatre and Dance and the Department of Music present "Anything Goes," with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, and book by Guy Bolton, P.G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse. The show begins at 8 p.m. at Johnson Theatre, with additional shows at 8 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 27-28, and at 2 p.m. Sunday and March 1.

The cast includes 26 student performers, with three theatre faculty members -- Anna Sartin, Janet Gray and Biff Edge -- serving on the technical crew.

Attention woodcarvers

The Showcase of Woodcarving 2009 event will be from noon to 4 p.m. and 10 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Marion Diehl Recreation Center, 2219 Tyvola Road, Charlotte. Competition registration is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and 7 to 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

This event is sponsored by the Charlotte Woodcarvers Club. This is an annual show that draws woodcarving visitors from six Southeastern states and show more than 600 carvings of all categories.

Hollywood's elite (and some who are not so elite) gather for the 81st annual Academy Awards, live at 8 p.m. on ABC. Get ready for three hours-plus of, um, excitement?

Learn to be a tutor

The York County Literacy Association will sponsor a tutoring workshop for adults who would like to volunteer to help other adults improve their reading and math skills. On the stage

Rock Hill Community Theatre presents "Same Time, Next Year" at 8 p.m. at the theater at 240 E. Black St. Written by Bernard Slade and directed by Elaine Roberts, the play follows the love affair between two people, married to others, who rendezvous once a year over a span of 25 years.

The play contains adult language. Shows also will be at 8 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 6-7, with Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. March 1 and 8. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors for the 8 p.m. shows. Sunday shows are $2 off.
