Take in the Bard

Experience a new interpretation on Shakespeare. The Young Yorkville Players will present “The Shakespeare Project” and "The Fifteen Minute Hamlet" at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and July 25 and 26 and at 3 p.m. Sunday and July 27. In "The Shakespeare Project," adapted by James Zager, the most famous scenes and monologues are taken from a selection of Shakespearean works and presented in a contemporary style with new interpretations. In "Fifteen Minute Hamlet," Tom Stoppard's version takes the most famous and best- loved lines from Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and condenses them into a hilarious 15-minute show. It’s a film classic

The “Wait Until Dark” movie series continues in downtown Rock Hill with the classic “To Kill a Mockingbird” at 8:45 p.m. today in the Old Town Amphitheater at City Hall on Black Street. Tickets are $3 or free with a receipt from a downtown merchant from the day of the movie. Folding chairs are provided or you may bring your own. Beer and wine will be sold.

Country sound

Ugly no more

The funny and deeply moving children’s classic “The Ugly Duckling” will be at the York County Libraries this week. Porkchop Productions brings colorful characters, big laughs and audience participation to this whimsical adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson tale about a misfit duckling trying to find her place in the world.

It’s over on ‘Avenue Q’

See what happens when you dare to dream big in the local take on the Broadway musical “Avenue Q” at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Belk Theatre, 130 N. Tryon Charlotte. Presented by the N.C. Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, the Tony Award-winning musical is the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account.
