It wouldn’t be Christmas without a parade, and the area has one down and 12 to go. Great Falls started off the season with its parade Sunday, and Lowrys will wrap up with its traditional horse-drawn entries on Dec. 20.
The parades will have plenty of music, sparkle and holiday fun, so mark these dates on your calendar.
Dec. 3, York: The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. on South Congress Street. Proceeds from the parade go to PATH, a nonprofit agency helping those in need in York. For more information, call 803-684-2590.
Dec. 5, Rock Hill: The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. The theme this year is “Always a Kid at Christmas” and will showcase lighted floats. Area Eleven Special Olympics athletes will be grand marshals. The parade route will start on Oakland Avenue at Winthrop University and travel downtown. Dec. 6, Fort Mill: The parade will begin at 11 a.m., with lineup at 9:30 a.m. on Leroy Street, and continue to Unity Cemetery. For more information, call 803-547-2116.
Dec. 6, Hickory Grove: The parade will begin at 3 p.m., starting at Hickory Grove Park. Lineup is at 2 p.m.
Dec. 7, Tirzah: The parade will begin at 3 p.m. and will travel from Nivens Road down Tirzah Road and end at S.C. 161.
Dec. 13, Clover: The parade will begin at 2 p.m. The theme this year is “Candy Canes in Clover.” Lineup will begin on Old North Main Street and will proceed down Main Street through downtown Clover. For more information, go to the Web site www.cloversc.info and click on “Current News.”
Dec. 13, Fort Lawn: The parade will begin at 2 p.m. It will start at Old Highway 21 and travel down Main Street. For more information, call 803-872-4724.
Dec. 13, Lake Wylie: The 20th annual “Lights on the Lake” boat parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Boats should meet at the T-Bones on the Lake dock on S.C. 49 at 6 p.m. for lineup. The best place to view the parade is from the deck at T-Bones and the Buster Boyd Public Boat Landing and access area. Early registration is $20, with a Dec. 11 deadline. Dec. 13, Lancaster: The parade will begin at 6 p.m. Lineup will start at the intersection of North Main and Woodland Ave. and travel down Main Street. For more information, call 803-286-1145.
Dec. 13, Richburg: The parade will begin at 11 a.m., with lineup on Old Richburg Road. Call 803-789-3636 for more information.
Dec. 14, Chester: The parade will begin at 3 p.m. at the Old Fairgrounds at the end of York Street and ends off of Columbia Street. For more information, call 803-581-2222.
Dec. 20, Lowrys: The parade will begin at 1 p.m. It will start at the Community Center, go into Lowrys and finish up at the Community Center. Entrants must have a horse-drawn vehicle or tractor.
