A man died and three others were injured a three-car crash on U.S. 521 near Kershaw Saturday night, according to the Highway Patrol.
Charles Blackwell, 65, of Cassatt, was pronounced dead on the scene, said Lancaster County Coroner Mike Morris. Blackwell was trapped in the vehicle after the crash, and he was not wearing a seat belt, said Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin of the patrol.
The crash happened around 7:45 p.m. Saturday night on U.S. 521 just north of Kershaw, Gaskin said.
Blackwell was driving a Chevy car northbound on U.S. 521 when he struck a Ford car driven by a Heath Springs woman before striking a Chrysler van driven by a Kershaw woman head-on, Gaskin said.
The Ford and Chrysler were both headed southbound, Gaskin said.
The Kershaw woman and her juvenile passenger were airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center, Gaskin said. Their conditions are not available at this time.
The driver of the Ford was taken to Springs Memorial Hospital, Gaskin said. Her condition is not available at this time. A passenger in that vehicle was also injured, Morris said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Gaskin said.
