Chester man, 41, dies after being shot in his home

CHESTER -- A Chester man died after someone shot into his Saluda Road house Saturday morning.

Eddie James Hall, 41, died Saturday at Carolinas Medical Center, Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith said.

Hall was shot just before 6 a.m. Saturday at his home, 568 Saluda St. Chester County Emergency Services received a 911 call saying someone had shot into the house, according to a release from Smith.

"This was not a drive-by," Smith told The Herald. "Someone stood in the yard and shot into the house."

Hall, who was shot in the head, was taken to Chester Regional Medical Center before being flown to Carolinas Medical Center. He died Saturday evening, the release states.

�I am not sure at this time why this senseless act of cowardness took place. But it is clear that (whoever) did this is a coward,� Smith said in the release. �You just don�t shoot up into somebody�s house like that and kill an innocent person like Mr. Hall.�

Smith said the shooting was senseless because anyone could have been in the house.

"Mr. Hall had been home all evening," Smith said. "He didn�t bother anyone."

A criminal background check on Hall reveals he had no felony charges, although he was arrested on a few traffic charges dating back to the early 1990s, according to South Carolina State Law Enforcement reports.

No one has been arrested, Smith said, as investigators are following leads Monday afternoon.

There were no other shooting incidents around 6 a.m. in the area, Smith said, however there was a shooting in Chester around 3 or 4 a.m. Smith did not know if there was a connection between the two shootings.
