Rock Hill begins leaf removal next week

The Herald

Fall leaf collection will begin next week in Rock Hill.

Leaves and brush will be collected on a two-week alternating schedule through January.

Monday and Tuesday collection routes will begin on Nov. 2, and leaves will be picked up every other week. Wednesday and Thursday collection routes will begin on Nov. 9 and continue every other week.

There will be no leaf collection for the weeks of Dec. 28 and Jan. 4. Garbage and trash collections will remain on a regular weekly schedule.

Every year, the city makes special arrangements for collecting leaves during peak leaf season.

Seasonal leaf tips

Leaves should be raked along the curb (not bagged) and kept separate from brush piles.

Leaves can be placed into city-issued yard carts for collection year-round.

Do not blow leaves into storm drains. Penalties with fines up to $1,000 can be issued.

Blocking traffic lanes or creating line-of-sight hazards for motorists can result in liabilities to the homeowner.

All collected yard waste is recycled at the city's compost center at 650 Friedheim Road, where it is chipped into mulch and available for pickup, free of charge, to residents from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday, except holidays.

Holiday trash pickup

The city also released a holiday trash collection schedule.

Thanksgiving: Thursday sanitation customers will be collected on Friday, Nov. 27.

Christmas: No change

New Year's Day: No change
