Thieves use rocks to break into businesses

- kdick@heraldonline.com

Rocks were used to break into two Rock Hill businesses this weekend, police say.

Early Saturday morning a store manager noticed a tool set on the ground behind O’Reilly Auto Parts on East Main Street and then saw the front glass door of the business had been knocked in, according to Rock Hill police reports.

The door appeared to be broken with a rock, and then kicked the rest of the way in. A softball-sized rock was found near the broken door, the report says.

The cash register had pry marks as if someone had tried to force it open. It is not known what, if anything, was taken.

Early Sunday morning, the Family Dollar on Albright Road was broken into by someone who smashed the front door of the store in, according to reports. Officers found a rock lying a few feet from the door.

Four or five Tracfones were taken from the store, valued at around $120, the report says.

The two incidents haven’t been linked together. No description of suspects is available in either case.
