Fort Mill man faces arson charges

- tgraham@fortmilltimes.com

A Fort Mill man set fire to a bed in his home, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of damage, police said.

Now Harold Howland, 70, faces two counts of second degree arson stemming from a fire that happened Oct. 25 at his Epps Road home, according to a report from the York County Sheriff's Office.

Fire officials determine that “Howland set an intentional fire to a bed” causing the residence to catch fire, the report notes. Damage was estimated at $5,000, according to the report.

A judge set Howland's bond at $50,000, a York County Detention official said. Howland was released on bond Monday, and his first court date is slated for Dec. 15.
