FORT MILL -- A Confederate Memorial Day service is planned at Confederate Park on Main Street at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The annual event is organized by the B/G Micah Jenkins Camp, a local division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Based in Rock Hill, the camp was chartered in 1991 and has held the service in a different location each year.

"I think that this will be a service of great historical significance for our camp and for Confederate Park," organizer Mark Allred said. "We are grateful to the city and excited about having the service in such a historical place."

The program includes re-enactors marching and posting colors, a history of Confederate Park and the playing of "Taps." A cannon and rifle salute will follow the reading of about 100 veterans' names off a monument in the park.

For information, call Camp Commander Davis Timmerman at 547-5797.
