YORK — A grand jury today indicted Phillip Fleming Watts Jr., the Rock Hill man police said confessed to seven robberies and three shootings, paving the way for Watts to go to trial.Police say Watts’ crime spree began in October and ended Feb. 14 after an attempted armed robbery and shooting at Cash on the Spot on South Cherry Road.
Over a 17-day period, police said, Watts robbed three businesses, where he shot two clerks and two customers. After Watts was arrested at a Rock Hill condominium Feb. 18, police says he confessed to seven robberies.
Watts faces multiple charges, including six counts of armed robbery; attempted armed robbery; four counts of assault and battery with intent to kill; two counts of kidnapping and seven counts of possession of a firearm during a violent crime, according to arrest warrants.
Watts remained in custody today at York County Detention Center.
