Authorities Tuesday identified the body of a man found earlier this week in a wooded area near Lake Wylie as a 27-year-old Charlotte man.

The body of Henry Revelo Romero of Timber Creek Apartments was found Sunday in a ravine in a new housing development off Montgomery Road near the state line.

Officials believe Romero had been in the ravine within 48 hours before his body was discovered around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, York County Sheriff's Capt. Jerry Hoffman said. Romero's slaying marks the first homicide investigation this year for the York County Sheriff's Office, Hoffman said.

Romero, who suffered injuries to the back of his head, died from blunt force trauma, said Hoffman, who declined to provide further details.

The body was discovered on Rookery Lane when the property owner and his son were inspecting the area, according to authorities.

Romero was wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and tan working boots. He also wore a diamond-like stud earring in his left ear.

Sabrina Gast, York County interim coroner, said an autopsy and toxicology test were completed Tuesday. Results are expected within six to eight weeks.

Authorities identified Romero by fingerprint records and believe he was killed at the scene. No one has been arrested in the homicide, Hoffman said.

Anyone with information about Romero's death should call York County Sheriff's Office at 628-3059 or CrimeStoppers of York County at 1-877-409-4321.
