Around graduation time, people of all ages post-high school remark about how they're getting old. This year's graduating class started kindergarten in 1995.
Realizing this is the first crop of students born in the 1990s is sure to make some feel even older.
Students in the class of 2008 mostly were born in 1989 and 1990. Today and Saturday, seniors around York County will graduate and either move on to college or to the work force. Here's a look at some things that happened in 1995:
• O.J. Simpson went on trial for the murders of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ron Goldman. He was found not guilty in October of that year.
• In September, Baltimore Orioles shortstop Cal Ripken Jr. broke the Major League Baseball record for consecutive games played, playing in his 2,131st straight game.
• Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated during a rally in Tel Aviv in November.
• The Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City was bombed, killing 168 people in what was then the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Two people later were found guilty in the bombing: Timothy McVeigh was executed, and Terry Nichols is spending the rest of his life in jail.
• Gas cost about $1.13 per gallon.
• Hundreds of thousands of black men participated in the Million Man March in Washington, D.C., in October to show unity and take charge of their neighborhoods.
• "Baywatch" actress Pamela Anderson married rocker Tommy Lee. The pair later split, remarried and divorced again.
• The movie "Toy Story" became the first full-length animated film made using only computer-generated imagery. The Disney/Pixar film grossed more than $191 million at the box office.
• Online giants eBay and Yahoo! were founded.
• "Forrest Gump," starring Tom Hanks, was named Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The film, which was released in 1994, won five other Oscars.
• Republicans took control of Congress on Jan. 4 and elected the first Republican speaker of the House of Representatives in 40 years. U.S. Rep. Newt Gingrich of Georgia was tapped for the job.
