2 face charges in June shooting

Police say man was injured in drug deal

Two Rock Hill teens could face lengthy prison sentences if convicted in the shooting of a 29-year-old man last month during what police say was a drug deal.

Authorities on Wednesday charged Tevin Darnard Anderson, 17, of 1219 Habitat Court with unlawful possession of a pistol by someone younger than 18; possession of a firearm during a violent crime; attempted armed robbery; criminal conspiracy and assault and battery with intent to kill in connection with the shooting of Justin Alexander Chisolm last month, according to arrest warrants.

Officials also charged William Jabar Jackson, 18, of 212 Whitgreen St. with criminal conspiracy and attempt to purchase marijuana, first offense, according to warrants.

The documents state that Jackson and Anderson planned to rob Chisolm during an arranged meeting June 16 in the 1400 block of Flint Hill Street, where Jackson was to purchase a half-pound of marijuana for $400 from Chisolm.

According to warrants, Anderson attempted to steal the marijuana from Chisolm and shot him once.

Around 8 p.m., Chisolm drove a 1979 Chevy Impala west on Saluda Street when he ran off the road, struck multiple construction barrels and 10 cement culverts in the median, according to a police reports.

Police found Chisolm slumped over his steering wheel with a gunshot wound to his chest. Chisolm had a yellow Dollar General bag that contained about 224.2 grams of marijuana, the report states.

Chisolm was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, where he was treated and transferred to a Charlotte hospital. He is recuperating at home, according to testimony Thursday during a bond hearing for the two suspects.

Chisolm does not face any charges at this time, said Lt. Jerry Waldrop of the Rock THill Police Department.

Police have not recovered the weapon used in the shooting, Waldrop said. Police believe a .22- or .25-caliber handgun was used in the shooting, according to the report.

Just before setting bond Thursday, a judge told Anderson that he could face up to 55 years in prison while Jackson could face up to a 10-year sentence if convicted. Bond was set at $50,000 for Anderson and $30,000 for Jackson. The teens, whose first court date is slated for Sept. 9, remained in custody Thursday at York County Detention Center.
