You don't have to be blue to love the blues

The fourth annual Downtown Blues Festival will be Oct. 2 through 4 in downtown Rock Hill. The following events are planned:

• 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 2, Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St., with music by Jake Haldenwang and the Highway 61 Blues Band.

• 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 2, Old Town Amphitheatre at Rock Hill City Hall, 155 Johnston St., with music by Matt Walsh and Pat "Mother Blues" Cohen.

• 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 3, Main Street Rock Hill venues, with music by Scott Bristow, Ironing Board Sam, Willie "The Bluesman" Roach and Robin Rogers.

• 4 to 11 p.m. Oct. 4, Old Town Amphitheatre, with music by Biscuit Miller and the Mix, Gene Gene and the Blues Machine and The Plair Allstars.

Tickets are, one-day pass, $12; two-day pass, $20; three-day pass, $30. Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts or call 328-2787.

Yorkville Players to stage 'Aladdin'

The Yorkville Players will perform "Aladdin" at 8 p.m. Oct. 10, 11, 17 and 18 and at 3 p.m. Oct. 12 and 19 at McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St., York.

In the show, Zorah, the mysterious stranger from the East, has an eye for Aladdin's old lamp. Aladdin discovers the magic of the lamp and his love for the princess.

Chester County 4-H to celebrate national week

Chester County 4-H is having a county-wide block party to celebrate National 4-H week from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Wal-Mart parking lot, J. A. Cochran Bypass, Chester. The event includes a pie-making contest, fashion show, talent show, face painting, games, food and more. Confederate youth day will be Saturday

The Confederate Heritage Youth Day will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Woodland Park Road in western York County. The camp will be at 4 p.m. To register for the camp or youth day, call Kirk Carter at (704) 739-2964 or (704) 825-3371 or William Kale at 628-5075.

Local church offering square dance classes

Western-style square dance classes will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Shield of Faith Family Church, 2499 Firetower Road, Rock Hill. The classes are hosted by the Carolina Promenaders. For details, call Danny at 328-0289 or Doris at 547-4551.

Paper marbling, more to be taught at Fewell Park

The following art classes are offered at Fewell Park Recreation Center:

• Paper Marbling, 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 7 through 28.

• Children's Art and Creativity for ages 7 to 12, 3:45 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 7 through 28 and Nov. 11 through Dec. 2.

• Children's Day of Art and Community Workshop for ages 8 to 12, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 4.

Registration is taken from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the center, 1204 Alexander Road, Rock Hill. For details, call 329-5645.

Bowling group, art guild have news to share

These clubs/groups announce information:

• The Rock Hill bowling group is planning a trip to Las Vegas July 6 through 11, 2009. Registration and deposit is due by Thursday. For details, call Johnnie M. McCoy at 329-0521.

• The Clover-Lake Wylie Republican Women's Club will have a luncheon meeting Friday at the River Hills Country Club, Lake Wylie. Social hour will be at 11:30 a.m., lunch will be at noon and at 12:30 p.m. the speaker will be Henry McMaster, S.C. attorney general. The public is invited.
