York City Judge Lynne H. Benfield has resigned from the part-time position to spend more time with her family.
Benfield, who has served as a city judge for York for nearly 10 years, resigned Sept. 18 in a letter to York Mayor Eddie Lee.
Her last day will be Oct. 24. City officials have begun searching for a replacement.
“I want to thank her for her decade of service,” Lee said. “She will be difficult to replace.”
Benfield worked York’s courts weekdays and every other weekend while maintaining her full-time post as York County’s chief magistrate. She is not leaving that post.
“This opportunity has made me grow as a professional person and also realize how blessed my family is,” Benfield wrote. “The people of York have been excellent; I am going to miss them.”
The move will allow Benfield to spend more time with three grandchildren — with a fourth on the way.
“I just like being a grammy,” she said.
