FORT MILL — A Fort Mill man has been arrested and charged with hitting his live-in girlfriend multiple times with a baseball bat.
The woman, who had a swollen area on the left side of her head, experienced dizziness and pain in her head as a result of the September assault, according to reports from the Fort Mill Police Department.
On Sunday, police charged Lynwood Bernard Thompson, 45, of Joe Louis Street with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and kidnapping in connection with the assault, report notes.
A judge on Monday set Thompson’s bond at $100,000, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office Web site.
The 49-year-old woman told police that she and Thompson argued Sept. 9 at the couple’s home.
At some point, the woman left the house to avoid further altercations, according to the report.
Then around 1 a.m. Sept. 10, the woman was walking down Steele Street when Thompson “attacked her with a baseball bat, striking her in the head, back and legs,” according to the report.
The woman was taken to a hospital and later released, the report notes. Afterward, she followed up with authorities, who subsequently arrested Thompson around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
In 2007, Thompson pleaded guilty to simple assault and battery in connection with an assault of a 47-year-old woman. He was sentenced to time served. She is not the same victim in the latest assault, police said.
Thompson remains in custody today at York County Detention Center, officials said.
