National Right to Life endorses Spencer
Republican Albert Spencer has picked up an endorsement in his run for the U.S. House 5th District against incumbent Democrat John Spratt.
National Right to Life, an anti-abortion group based in Washington, D.C., announced its support for Spencer this week. “We look forward to working with you in Congress to restore legal protection for innocent life,” the group wrote in a letter.
A devout Catholic, Spencer fiercely opposes abortion rights. He favors a Constitutional amendment outlawing abortion and ending what he calls “a culture of death.”
Spratt supports abortion rights in the first three months of pregnancy but has voted against using Medicaid to fund the procedure.
The two candidates faced each other in 2004, when Spencer earned 37 percent of the vote. Spencer lives in Gaffney and teaches physical education at Limestone College.
