CHESTER — Authorities are pulling up thousands of marijuana plants worth about $8 million discovered in a Chester camp complete with two sleeping bags, officials said.

“We just started pulling them up,” said Chester County Sheriff Robby Benson. “There are some still in the cups that they have not planted yet.”

The camp off Sandy River Road near S.C. 72 was discovered Tuesday, Benson said.

“Somebody was out surveying the land for lumber and came up on the marijuana field,” he said.

Officials returned today to pull up the marijuana, which will be destroyed Thursday, he said.

“We’re trying to see if we can locate the individuals who were staying here,” Benson said. “We came in here with the bloodhound tracking team. We had the helicopter on stand by. It flew by as soon as we entered the camp to try to find the individuals.”
