Catawba named a scenic river
By Matt Garfield · The Herald
Updated 08/14/08 - 12:33 AM | Gov. Mark Sanford visited for a signing ceremony to give the designation to a 30-mile stretch from Lake Wylie Dam to the S.C. 9 bridge. "It was a little wet, but we had a good turnout," said Catawba Riverkeeper David Merryman. "This was a day of the river saying, 'Thanks for recognizing my beauty,' but still asking for more help." The designation allows conservationists, landowners and public officials to convene as an official advisory group on river-related concerns.
