ROCK HILL - Mr. John Gaston "Snook" Nichols, 77, of 1875 Mount Holly Drive, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral service will be 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, at Mount Holly United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dan Bradley officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Nichols was a son of the late John T. Nichols and the late Virginia Ligon Nichols. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean war and employed with Rock Hill Printing and Finishing for 25 years and retired from Dickson Roofing with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church, the VFW Post #2889 and the American Legion Post #134. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Nichols Sr. and his grandson, Jon Matthew Kerr.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma "Peggy" Harless Nichols; his daughters, Donna N. Braswell and her husband, Jerry of York, S.C., Nancy N. Pratt and her husband, Rick and Karen N. Thornburg and her husband, Ted, all of Rock Hill; his sister, Betty N. Parrish of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road and other times at the home.
