PINEVILLE, N.C. -- Ellen Bush Helfner, 84, of Pineville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at Pineville Rehabilitation and Living Center.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, at Flint Hill Baptist Church, Fort Mill, S.C. Interment will follow at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 17, 1924, the daughter of the late Oscar and Fannie Bush. She is predeceased by her husband, Jack Helfner; son, Jackie Reid Helfner, and granddaughter, Monica Player.

She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church where she served in the Nursery Department for 52 years.

Surviving are her son, Daryl Helfner of Pineville; daughters, Barbara Meyer of Raleigh, N.C., Brenda Player and husband, Harold of Rock Hill, S.C., and Patsy Pressley and husband, Dennis of Monroe, N.C.; "adopted daughter", Carolyn Reid and husband, Frank of Moncks Corner, S.C.; grandchildren, Michelle Bullard and husband, Clay, Ryan Pressley, Renee Franklin and husband, Tracy, Barry Player; and great-grandchildren, Chase Franklin, Banks Bullard, Angelina Bullard and Zoe Pressley.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, at McEwen Pineville Chapel.

In lieu of flowers a memorial may be made to Flint Hill Baptist Church, Refurbishing Fund, 269 Flint Hill Road, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
