Jerome Wilson
Jerome Wilson Jr. passed away Oct. 7, 2009.
He was born May 1, 1923, in Anderson, S.C., to his late parents, Jerome Wilson Sr. and Floride Ward Wilson.
He graduated from Boys High School in Anderson and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Chemistry from Clemson University. He was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity. He was employed as a Techinical Superintendent with Deering Milliken and Reeves Brothers as Techinical Techinical Director. Mr. Wilson retired from Sequa Chemical as Field Service Manager in the Textile Chemical Division.
Mr. Wilson was an Army Air Core veteren of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and in the liberation of the Philippine Islands. He was past president of Bishopville Kiwanis; past president of Boys Little League Baseball; past president of P.T.A.; a licensed pilot; and was an avid reader.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Joyce Garrett Wilson of the home. His children, Ms. Sheila Grace Wilson of Rock Hill, Col.(Ret.) Jerome (Jerry) Wilson III of Sanford, N.C., R. Garrett Wilson Sr. of Chester, Russell B. Wilson of Ashland, Mo., and Thomas (Tom) Leonard Wilson Sr. of Elberton, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. Alpha Wilson Crayton of Belton, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by son, Charles Edward Wilson of Seattle, Wa.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Pollard Funeral Home. Graveside funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at the Historic St. Pauls Episcopal Church Yard in Pendelton, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to York Place Episcopal Home for Children, 234 Kings Mountain St., York, SC 29745 or United Hospice 118 York St. Chester, SC 29706.
