ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Norma Jean Mathis, 77, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The family will receive friends noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at the home of Mrs. Mathis daughter, Betty M. Diamond, 1255 Branch Road, York, S.C.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road.

A native of Clifton Forge, Va., Mrs. Mathis moved to Rock Hill in 1947. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Gracie Hall Underwood and was preceded in death by her husband, Garvie Clay Mathis and daughter, Alma Jane Cordero. She retired from Celanese after 50 years of service. She was a certified ward secretary at York General Hospital and a retired ordained Minister of the First Full Gospel Church.

Mrs. Mathis was a member of several gospel singing groups and enjoyed singing at Rock Hill nursing homes.

Surviving are her three daughters, Betty M. Diamond (Michael) of York, Carole M. Wolfe (Donnie) of Edgemoor and Chris M Collins (Cleve) of Rock Hill; grandchildren, Kelly Nivens (Jimmy), Clay Hambright (Christy), Charlie Kimbrell and Carson Collins; great-grandchildren, Abigale Grace Nivens, Stephen Nivens III, Jax Nivens, Jack Branham Kimbrell, Dylan Adams and Maddie Adams.

The family thanks the following friends/caregivers: Julia Knox, Nona Rogers, Grace Sanderson, Margie Knox and Brenda A. Ridge. Our mother and family appreciated and loved them all.
