CHESTER -- Mr. Clyde McKee, 74, of 172 Frances Street, died Sunday, October 5, 2008, at his residence.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating. Interment will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

Mr. McKee was born January 17, 1934, in York County, a son of the late Charles B. and Pearl Crimminger McKee.

He attended schools in Fort Mill, S.C., and was a U.S. Army and Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from Springs Industries with 46 years of service. After his retirement from Springs, he was a codes enforcement officer for Chester County.

Survivors include his wife, Essie Taylor McKee; one son, Clyde D. "Butch" McKee of Chester; one daughter, Lisa M. Barnes of Sharpsburg, N.C.; five grandchildren, Tiffany M. Snipes of Columbia, S.C., Chris McKee of York, S.C., and Andrea Whitley, Melissa Ezzell and Brad Hopper, all of Rocky Mount, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb McKee of Chester, and Taylor Johnson and Madi Whitley of Rocky Mount. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street in Chester.
