South Pointe band wins Grand Champion award

The South Pointe High School marching band in Rock Hill won first place in Class 3A during the Shelby Golden Classic band competition Saturday. The band also was named the 1A, 2A and 3A Grand Champion.

In the Shelby event, the South Pointe band won first place in music, visual performance, general effect, guard and drum line, and won second place for drum major.

The South Pointe band also competed Oct. 3 at the Olde English Tournament of Bands in Rock Hill and won first place in Class 3A and first in music, visual performance, general effect and drum line and second place guard. The band earned a spot in the finals competition, finishing seventh overall.
