Not every American is a college graduate or holds a master's degree in economics, but most Americans are smart. They understand just what is happening in our great country.
It looks like President Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are going to jam the socialized health care reform down the throats of every American even though 70 percent do not want this 2,700-page reform. Some reform is needed, but not this monstrosity. Some simple solutions: Tort reform, sell across state lines, get fraud out of Medicare and Medicaid.

Aside from the disgrace that Washington believes a blue-ribbon panel can come up with ideas better than our congressional members, I would like to save us taxpayers all of that expense.
Wow, your “Guns in national parks” editorial must have been an easy one to write! I’m sure all you did was brush off the editorial you wrote after the passage of the “Law Abiding Citizens Self-Defense Act of 1996,” which allowed South Carolinians who underwent fingerprinting, an FBI background check and took an eight-hour certified safety class to carry concealed firearms. After all, back then you wrote that allowing more citizens to carry firearms would lead to shootouts at stop signs, bloodshed over parking spaces and overall mayhem, all because more people were “packing heat” as you put it.
I understand and don’t dispute the fact that smoking and secondhand smoke are bad for your health.
The possibility of no longer having Saturday mail delivery is appalling. Let’s hope Congress doesn’t approve it. I, for one, have always looked forward to Saturday delivery, and while I understand the USPS is in dire financial straits, I’d rather pay extra if it meant keeping Saturday service, jobs and health care for the postal workers.
Regarding the recent articles on Newport Lakes:
Who is responsible for the care and upkeep on the two sets of railroad tracks on Red River Road? One set of tracks is still there on the crossing area.
Sorry to allude to Terry Plumb’s having a room-temperature IQ, but he’s been drinking too much of his party’s kool aid. Maybe he just wants to elicit responses such as this one but there is no scientific proof about global warming, much less connecting it to man’s activities.
