The Yorkville Players will present "Charlotte's Web," the stage adaptation of the novel by E.B. White. Performance dates are 3 p.m. Sunday and Jan. 18 and 8 p.m. Jan. 16 and 17.
All shows will be at the McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St., York.
The show is a beautiful play about friendship. Determined to save the pig Wilbur, the spider Charlotte begins her campaign with the "miracle" of her web, in which she writes, "Some pig." It's the beginning of a victorious campaign which ultimately ends with the now-safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte.

Bake sale planned for injured firefighter
The Sharon Fire Department will sponsor a bake sale beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday at the department, 3336 York St. The sale will benefit Shawn Cheek, a firefighter who was injured in the line of duty. Contributions also can be sent to the Sharon Fire Department, Shawn Cheek Fund, P.O. Box 323 Sharon, SC 29742.
NAACP, Rotary Club among local meetings

• The Lancaster Rotary Club will meet at noon today at the Fairway Room in the Lancaster Golf Club. The speaker will be John Rainey, chairman of the S.C. Board of Economic Advisors. The board tracks the general economy and advises the Budget and Control Board on tax revenues and state spending.
• The local Post K, a non-profit community services association sponsoring children's safety programs and a deaf scholarship program, will meet at 7 p.m. today at Jackson's Cafeteria on Heckle Boulevard in Rock Hill. • Bridget Moix, lobbyist for the Friends Committee on National Legislation in Washington, D.C., will speak to the Henry's Knob group of S.C. chapter of the Sierra Club today at the Wesley Foundation, 406 Stewart St., Rock Hill. Moix will talk about the prevention of deadly conflict and how, working through Congress, the community can help shift U.S. policy away from war toward peace. • PAWSabilities, the Humane Society of York County's second chance shop, will host a grand opening from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 2036 Carolina Place, Fort Mill. Donations will be accepted from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of York County.
