The ladies auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9138 and Fort Mill Ford are collecting small stuffed animals to send to Afghanistan for the children there. A Rock Hill soldier who is serving in Afghanistan has requested the stuffed animals. Fort Mill Ford has a truck in its showroom where the stuffed animals are being collected. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will hold its eighth annual fall festival and Halloween carnival from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1694 Bird St., Rock Hill. The event will include games for all ages, a haunted house, costume contest, face painting, crafts, raffles, a silent auction, spaghetti dinner and more. Proceeds benefit the needy.

Adnah United Methodist Church will host a fall bazaar and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the family life center, 1615 Adnah Church Road, Rock Hill. The event will include 30 vendors with crafts, baked goods, baby items, home canned goods and more. A breakfast of eggs and grits, sausage biscuits and coffee or juice will be served from 8 to 10 a.m. A lunch of hot dogs, chips and drink will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A silent auction will continue during the event. The Fort Mill Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus will team up to provide the 10th annual fish fry from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Post 9138, 1442 Harris Road, Fort Mill. Cost is $7 per plate of fried flounder, slaw, French fries, hush puppies and iced tea for eat-in or take-out. Only 200 plates are available. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.
The fifth annual cancer walk at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Chester will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 24. Registration is from 8 to 8:30 a.m. A continental breakfast will be served before the five-mile walk. Hot dogs will be sold after. The Friends of the York County Library will host a book sale Oct. 22 to 24 at the First ARP Church gym, 201 E. White St., Rock Hill. Thousands of books will be for sale at $1 per inch, measuring the height of the book stack. Audio-visual materials also are available. The public sale will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 23 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24. Saturday is half-price day, with the price at 50 cents per inch. Preview night for Friends members will be 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22. Memberships may be purchased or renewed at the door, beginning at $10 for individuals and $25 for families. Oakdale Baptist Church is seeking vendors for its annual vendor and craft show, planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 7 at the church, 1249 Oakdale Road, Rock Hill. Proceeds benefit global missions.
