‘Alzheimer's Series' being shown

A screening of the four-part, Emmy-nominated “The Alzheimer's Series” will be shown this month and in November at York County Adult Day Care Services at Park Avenue Center, 359 Park Ave., Rock Hill.

The time for all four showings will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Part one, “Memory Loss Tapes,” will be Monday. Part two, “Grandpa, do you know who I am?” will be Oct. 25. Part three, “Care Givers,” will be Nov. 2, and part four, “Momentum in Science,” will be Nov. 9.

The screenings are open to caregivers, families and professionals wanting to learn more about dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Light refreshments will be served.

The events are sponsored by York County Adult Day Care Service and Senior Helpers. Refreshments will be served. Reservations are appreciated; call 803-327-7448.

Energy assistance available

through CCA program

Beginning this week, Carolina Community Actions will be helping low-income residents keep the cold outside this winter with its low-income home energy assistance program.

Ten locations across York County will be accepting applications from qualified residents for heating assistance. The locations and the hours are:

Clover Area Assistance Center, 1130 S.C. 55 East, Clover, 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednsday and 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays. Phone: 803-222-4837

Qualified, income-eligible applicants are eligible for up to $500, with a minimum direct assistance of $225, based on income and family size. Residents may apply twice in 2009. They must provide identification, proof of income and Social Security cards for household members.

The Lewisville Preservation Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Front Porch Restaurant on S.C. 9 at Interstate 77 in Richburg. Guest speaker will be James M. Gaston Jr. of Columbia, son of group member James “Jim” Gaston, who will share a partial history of the former Lewisville Female Academy, once located in his father's historic home in Richburg.
