‘Kick the Can' with Junior Welfare League

The Junior Welfare League of York County will sponsor “Together We Can, Kick the Can,” an all-day canned food drive Saturday that benefits area food banks. Drop-off locations for the canned food drive on Saturday will be at the Williams and Fudge office at the Cotton Factory in Rock Hill and at the Harris Teeter store on S.C. 160 in Fort Mill. Children's activities, inflatables, live music and face painting will be available at the Rock Hill drop-off location.

The Honor Guard and men's auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2889 will sponsor a Sunday breakfast buffet from 8 a.m. to noon today at the post, 732 W. Main St., Rock Hill. A donation of $6 is requested. The menu includes all-you-can-eat homemade grits, sausage and gravy and eggs made to order. For details, call 803-327-2975.

A blues and barbecue fundraiser will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Fleet Equestrian Center, 2142 Hicklin Bridge Road, Edgemoor. All proceeds will benefit If Wishes Were Horses, a nonprofit therapeutic riding program for special needs children. The menu includes barbecue, cole slaw, baked beans, dessert and drinks for $10 per plate. Dinner times are from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Pony rides, games and crafts for children will be available during the afternoon. A holiday arts and crafts market sale will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Art Mill in downtown Fort Mill. Booth spaces still are available. For details, visit www.fortmillartguild.com.

Kane Family Chiropractic and Fort Mill Ford are partnering to raise money to help build Catawba Park in Tega Cay. A benefit event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 31 at both locations. Kane Family Chiropractic will be providing services at no charge in exchange for a $30 donation. Fort Mill Ford will be hosting a car wash, requesting donations of $5 or more. Proceeds will help develop the 10-acre space into Catawba Park, which will include three multi-functional fields for youth recreation. For details, call 803-802-6637.

Bethel United Methodist Church will host a country lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at 1232 Curtis St., Rock Hill. The cost is $6 and each plate includes chicken and dumplings, stew beef and rice, casseroles, vegetables, desserts, bread and a drink. All proceeds will benefit missions.

Oakdale Elementary School will host a fall carnival from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the school, 1129 Oakdale Road, Rock Hill. The event will include quarter games, crafts, make-up Italian ice, Tupperware, candles and other vendors. Hot dogs, chips, popcorn and drinks will be sold. All proceeds will benefit the Oakdale Elementary PTO.

The Equestrian Ministries Saddle Club will present a family fun day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 31 at B & B Arena in Clover. A drill team performance will be at noon, and gospel music starts at 3 p.m. Concessions will be available. Guests are asked to bring chairs. St. John's United Methodist Church will host a fashion show featuring the members of Rock Hill's Designer Ltd. group at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the church, 321 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill. Proceeds will benefit the Children's Attention Home. Admission is $5. A silent auction will precede the show.

York County physician practices associated with Presbyterian Healthcare will be collecting pennies and loose change as part of a friendly penny wars fundraising project benefiting local community groups. The fundraiser will be on Oct. 30, and all proceeds will benefit the York County Cancer Society. Presbyterian Healthcare practices include Lewisville Medical Center, Fort Mill Family Practice, Carolina OB/GYN, Rock Hill Family Practice and Surgical Specialists of the Carolinas.
