Take in a little night music with Ann Herlong

Rock Hill pianist Ann Herlong will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Winthrop University's Barnes Recital Hall. The program will include compositions by Scarlatti, Mendelssohn, Ravel and Chopin. Herlong won third place in 2004 in the prestigious Van Cliburn International Amateur Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. She also was awarded the prize for best in Baroque performance. The next Van Cliburn competition will be in 2011. Herlong continues to study and perform, and teaches private piano lessons in her home.

Local Salvation Army

looking for bell ringers

The Salvation Army will be taking applications for holiday bell ringers in the Rock Hill area. For details or to sign up, call 803-324-5141 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday.

Fundraisers planned for

breast cancer, library

These fundraisers are planned:

York County's Party In Pink, a group of women committed to promoting early detection and access to breast cancer treatment for underinsured or uninsured women, will host a benefit from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Diana's Blinds and Designs, 1661 Katy Lane, Fort Mill. International interior designer Sally Morse will discuss The Magic Threes of Design. Tickets are $20, available Diana's Blinds or by calling 803-548-4440. Seating is limited. Door prizes and refreshments will be available.

Dacus Library at Winthrop University will hold its second annual Art 4 Books Festival on Dec. 1. The library is seeking artists to showcase their work. Rental tables are $20. Fees will benefit Dacus Library, but all sales will benefit the individual artist. CN2's food drive, Feed the Hungry, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at 135 Elizabeth Lane, Rock Hill. Participants are asked to bring nonperishable food items to benefit the Children's Attention Home, Safe Passage and Pilgrims' Inn. For details, call Linda at 803-374-6502.

The Rock Hill High School Bearcats varsity cheerleaders will host a fundraiser Saturday at Jokers Club, 1312 Neely's Creek Road, Rock Hill. Barbecue plates will be sold for $5 per plate. A horseshoe and cornhole tournament will start at 2 p.m.; cost is $5 per person and $10 per team.

The York school district's fifth-grade MERIT students will host a Graham's fish and chicken fry and dessert fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hunter Street Elementary School, 1100 Hunter St., York. All plates are $8 each and $1 desserts will be available. Tickets will be sold at the door. For details, call Dawn Good at 803-684-7331.

Hospice & Community Care will present the sixth annual Soup Studio from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, 426 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill. Guests will taste soups from 25 local restaurants with breads, desserts and drinks. Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased at the door or by visiting the Hospice and Community Care office at 2275 India Hook Road, Rock Hill. Proceeds benefit patients and their families. The United Methodist Men of India Hook United Methodist Church in Rock Hill will sponsor a barbecue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church. Pork barbecue, slaw, chips, a roll, tea and dessert will cost $8 per plate. Barbecue will be sold for $8.50 per pound. The United Methodist Women will sponsor a bake sale during the barbecue sale. Carry-out orders may be placed by calling the church at 803-329-7787.

Indian Land Masonic Lodge 414 will start selling barbecue at 10 a.m. Nov. 21 at the lodge, 9130 Charlotte Highway. Chicken and pork plates will be $7 each. Whole chickens are $7 and half chickens are $4 each. Pork barbecue will be $7 per pound. At 9 a.m., the Eastern Star will sell homemade cakes, pies, cookies, bread and other items.
