New artwork going up at Rock Hill's Rotunda Gallery

The paintings of Lancaster artist Amanda Tucker are on display during June in the Rock Hill City Hall Rotunda Gallery, second floor, 155 Johnson St., Rock Hill. 'Voices Part III' being staged at Emmett Scott

A production of original stage plays, "Voices Part III," will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Emmett Scott Auditorium, 801 Crawford Road, Rock Hill. The plays are written, produced and directed by Dr. Man Productions.

Emcee will be Doris Ezell Schmidt. The event will have music under the direction of Antonio Barber, featuring performances by the Voices of Joy and the band, That's What We Do. Also performing will be the Willing Travelers of Rock Hill. Advance tickets are $10 and door tickets are $12. For tickets, call (803) 371-0849.

Lemonade stand will benefit cancer research

Families of the Baxter community in Fort Mill will have a lemonade stand to benefit pediatric cancer research, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 951 Market St., Fort Mill. The stand is part of Lemonade Days, a three-day national event sponsored by Alex's Lemonade Stand Grand Stand and Country Time lemonade.

The Baxter Grand Stand is a collaboration of three Baxter families affected by childhood cancer. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is a non-profit organization that grew from the front yard lemonade stand of Alexandra "Alex" Scott, a pediatric cancer patient. The stand opened in 2000 as a way to raise money for pediatric cancer research. The foundation has raised over $19 million. For details or to donate, visit www.firstgiving.com/baxlemonade08.

Allison Creek hosting Christian Faith Bluegrass

Covenant Presbyterian having cook out tonight>

Open house at Covenant Presbyterian Church will feature bluegrass and a cook out from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church,1830 Celanese Road, Rock Hill. The event is free and open to the public. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. In the event of rain, the activities will be moved indoors. Indian Creek will perform music. Donations will be accepted for the band.

They're fighting at Beckhamville this weekend

The seventh annual Battle of Beckhamville re-enactment will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the battlefield in Great Falls, at S.C. 97 and S.C. 99. The battle was the first victory for the Patriots after the May 1780 fall of Charleston.

The event will include period music, dancing, colonial tradesmen and craftsmen, blacksmiths, children's activities, sutler shops, vendors and food concessions.

The Scots-Irish Heritage dinner, part of the weekend re-enactment, will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Great Falls War Memorial Building, 401 Dearborn St. Speaker will be Bert Dunkerly, author of books on the American Revolution. Dunkerly is chief ranger of Moores Creek National Battlefield near Wilmington, N.C. He has worked at eight historic sites, including Kings Mountain, N.C.; Jamestown, Va.; Gettysburg, Penn.; and Williamsburg Va.

Tickets for the dinner are $25 per person and proceeds benefit the Great Falls Home Town Association, event sponsor. Tickets must be purchased in advance. For reservations, call (803) 482-2370.

Rock Hill High doing 'Artistic Inspiration'

The Rock Hill High School theater department will perform the one-act play "Artistic Inspiration" by Don Zolidis at 7:30 p.m. today at the school, 320 W. Springdale Road, Rock Hill. General admission is $5 and tickets are available at the door. The play was chosen to represent the state of South Carolina at the International Thespian Festival in June in Lincoln, Neb.
