Farmers roll out the big equipment

The Richburg tractor show will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lewisville High School, 3971 Lewisville High School Road, Richburg. Tractor owners are invited to bring their tractors and farm equipment to display.

Admission is free and there is no registration. Tom Weaver will demonstrate his binder and thrasher machines. Barbecue plates will be sold for $7.

The show is sponsored by the Richburg Masonic Lodge. Non-food vendors are welcome to participate, and tables are $20. For details, call Weaver at (803) 377-0502.

Hudson band performing at local bluegrass event

The Hudson Family Band will perform at 7 p.m. today at Allison Creek Bluegrass at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church, 5780 Allison Creek Road, York. Food is available at 6:30 p.m.

The band, consisting of the Hudson family -- dad, mom, eight children and grandma -- includes two five-piece bands. The event is free and open to the public.

Today's show will conclude the spring series. The concerts will resume in August. For details, visit www.allisoncreekbluegrass.com.

Creative writing is topic of June 26 workshop

A free creative writing workshop by Martha Macdonald, English instructor at York Technical College, will be at noon June 26 in the York Technical College Library room 100, 452 Anderson Road, Rock Hill. Macdonald will read passages from her recently published novel, "Psaltery at White Oaks."

Awards event planned for photo competition

The Arts Council of York County's fourth annual photography competition awards ceremony, opening reception and Art Crawl will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Clover's fall festival in need of entertainers

Entertainers are needed for the Clover Fall Festival on Sept. 20. Singers, dancers, groups or other performers interested should call Gina Bruce at Clover Parks and Recreation at (803) 222-9493.

All acts are subject to approval and no one will be allowed to perform without registering. There is no cost to participate. Registration deadline is Aug. 30. The festival will raise money for underprivileged children.

Shrine steak night is every third Saturday

The Crescent Shrine Club will have a steak night from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and every third Saturday of each month at the club, 2065 McConnells Highway, Rock Hill. Steak is $12 and hamburger steak is $9, and both plates include baked potato, tea or coffee, roll and salad bar. The event is open to the public.

Shag club dancers will cut a rug Friday

The Rock Hill area shag club will meet from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday at Checkers, 1685 Katy Lane, Fort Mill. Frank Price will be the disc jockey, playing beach and shag music. There is no cover charge.

Fourth of July event planned at Lake Wylie church

Good Samaritan United Methodist Church will have a free July 4th celebration with fellowship and karaoke at 7 p.m. June 28 at 5220 Crowders Cove Lane, Lake Wylie.

Meals, poker run among area benefits

The following are having fundraisers:

n A memorial benefit for Tonya Putnam will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday with a poker run beginning at Down Yonder Bar, McConnells Highway. Registration is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The run ends at Buster and Eddies on McConnells Highway. Hot dog and hamburger plates are available for $6 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Buster and Eddies. There also will be a bake sale, horseshoes, auction and more. Monetary donations for the Tonya Putnam fund are accepted at South Carolina Bank and Trust of York, 801 E. Liberty St., York. n A memorial benefit for Richard Ghant will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Tropical Escape Restaurant, 564 N. Anderson Road, Rock Hill. Plates are $12.50 and will include roast beef, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, garden salad, mixed fruit, green beans, coleslaw, roll or cornbread, dessert and beverage.
