Last weekend of freedom includes back-to-school events

The following back-to-school activities are this weekend:

n Operation Help One Another will have its third annual Back to School Bash, "Reaching for the Stars," from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Market Place Apartments, 1333 Coronet Court, Rock Hill. n The second annual Back To School Fun Day sponsored by the Citizens Awareness Group York will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Educational Service Center parking lot on Pickney St., York, across from old Jefferson football field. n The Rock Hill Deliverance Center will have its annual yard sale and school supply giveaway from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 1041 Sylvia Circle, Rock Hill.

Rawlinson Road hosting open house Sunday

Rawlinson Road Middle School invites new students rezoned to RRMS and students new to the area to a new student open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Students will be introduced to school personnel and take a tour of the building. Open house for sixth-graders and their parents only will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Down Home Play Festival runs through Sunday

The Rock Hill Community Theatre will have its 2008 Down Home Play Festival at 8 p.m. today through Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in Johnson Theatre, Winthrop University. Original one-act plays will be presented by local and regional playwrights. Tickets cost $12 adults, $10 students and seniors for Friday and Saturday performances and $10 adults and $8 students and seniors for Thursday and Sunday performances. Come see the tractors, cars and trucks

The Fourth Annual Tractor & Engine Show, which is also a car and truck show, will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at Kings Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church, 2040 S.C. 161, York. There will be biscuits, hot dogs and hamburgers. For details, call (803) 684-2473.

These area fundraisers are happening

n Boy Scout Troop No. 116 of Rock Hill will have a multi-family indoor yard sale and hot dog lunch fundraiser beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday at India Hook United Methodist Church, 3300 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill. Proceeds benefit Scouts activities.

n The Xi Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will have a car wash and bake sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Pep Boys on Cherry Road. Proceeds benefit sorority activities.

n The 4-H Lifestyles Club will have a yard sale at 7 a.m. Saturday at 1629 Springsteen Road, Rock Hill. For details, call the Clemson Extension office at (803) 385-6181, Ext. 113.

n The Humane Society of York County will have a yard and bake sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the shelter, 2036 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill. Item donations for the sale may be dropped off at the shelter from 1 to 4 p.m. through Saturday. For details, call (803) 802-0902.

Delve into the history of York at workshop

Hudson Family Band performing Saturday

Ministry heading to Workman Street Park

Taking the City Ministry will have its Bringing It To the Neighborhood outreach ministry event at 5 p.m. Saturday at Workman Street Park in Rock Hill. The event includes live music, fellowship, testimonies, youth praise dance, worship and more. The event is free and open to the public.

Come out to Fewell Park to play disc golf
