York County's livestock show set for weekend

The 2008 York County Fall Livestock show will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday at Triple Creek Farm, 700 Triple Creek Drive, Rock Hill. Admission is free, and food will be sold. For details, call 684-9919, Ext. 113.

Girl Scouts recruiting tonight at schools

Local Girl Scouts troops are having a recruiting event from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Independence Elementary, 132 W. Springdale Road, Rock Hill; York Road Elementary, 2254 W. Main St., Rock Hill; and Northside Elementary, 840 Annafrel St., Rock Hill.

Check out the tractors, cars at Faulk Farm show

A Tractor Show and Cruz-in-old Classic Cars will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Faulk Farm, 3736 Turtle Pond Drive, Rock Hill. Admission is a donation of a toy for a child or contribution to Toys for Tots or the Marine Corp. League. Activities include lawn mowers, small tractors, hay rides for kids, food, cow patty Bingo and more.

New exhibits on display in Rock Hill

The Arts Council of York County offers the following exhibits:

n Photography exhibits of brothers Ray and John Clemmer will be on exhibit during September at the Rock Hill City Hall Rotunda Gallery, second floor, 155 Johnson St., Rock Hill.

Admission is free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

n Exhibit of works by artists Marcia Kort Buike, Virginia L. Dauth and W. Tobi Bordihn will be on display through Sept. 28 at the Perimeter Gallery at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St., Rock Hill. The exhibit is free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second and fourth Saturday of each month and 2 to 4 p.m. the second and fourth Sunday of each month.

Churches plan community events

These churches are having events this weekend:

n Christ Deliverance Church Empowerment Day 2008, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Friedheim Park, 300 Friedheim Road, Rock Hill. The event includes free food, games, music, health screenings, HIV testing and more. For details, visit www.christdeliverancechurch.org.

n A fellowship day sponsored by neighborhood churches of the Wilksburg Community, 1 p.m. Saturday in the Baton Recreation Park, Pinckney Road, S.C. 9, Chester. Lunch will be served.

n A Bluegrass Afternoon, 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at High Point Free Will Baptist Church, Christian Life Center, 2095 Great Falls Highway. Admission is free; donations will be accepted. Auditions have been set for dance, plays

The following are having auditions:

n Children are needed for a production of the "Nutcracker" by the Columbia City Ballet and the Lancaster County School district. Auditions will be Sept. 21 at the University of South Carolina, Lancaster campus. Audition times are 2 p.m. for dancers age 4 to 6; 3 p.m. for dancers ages 7 to 10; 4 p.m. dancers ages 11 and older. n The Edge Theatre Company, a non-profit theater of Rock Hill, will have auditions for Bill Russell's "Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens," from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 27 and from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Rock Hill Community Theatre, 240 E. n The Rock Hill Community Theatre will have auditions for "Misery" from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16 at 240 E. Black St., Rock Hill. Needed are one man and two women who can play in the age range of 30 to 50. For details, call Jack Stevenson at 517-0277.

Local groups make plans for fundraisers

These fundraisers are happening:

n Hopewell United Methodist Church is having a yard and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 521 E. Liberty St., York, in the parking lot of Wright's Funeral Home.
